Altaville is a small unincorporated community located in Calaveras County, California, United States. It is located approximately three miles north of the city of Angels Camp. Altaville was once a prosperous mining community during the California Gold Rush, but today it is largely a residential area. The community is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Altaville Grammar School, which was built in 1858 and is the oldest continuously-operating school in Calaveras County. The town is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and offers many outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking and fishing. Altaville is also home to a few small businesses, including a post office, gas station, and a few restaurants.
